As I pointed out in this List several times. SETI is a self-
perpetuating bureaucracy. SETI is tasked with searching for
alien radio signals. That's a mission statement with zero
accountability. It provides cushy jobs, easy work, and great pay
(Any of you pull in >$140,000/year + 401K? Thought so.) Most of
SETIs funding is government contracts. You can bet the Gov't has
(long ago) provided rules for what can and can't be publicized.
I know folks who would do almost anything for a gig like that.
It's like printing money. I can't speak to the government
contracts, and neither can anyone else, but one can speculate
that they involve receiving and analyzing radio frequencies.
So please, let's not take SETI so seriously. It's embarrassing.
