Your suggestion is a good one, if you have a witness that is
able to provide a detailed description without having specifics
drawn out through questioning.  It's very hard to formulate
questions in a purely un-biased manner when trying to gain
clarification, and often I've found that witnesses aren't very

I know that NICAP had protocols in place when dealing with
witnesses and gathering information, and you probably could find
a copy of those somewhere.  MUFON and the FUND followed the same
guidelines for years, but the Internet has really changed how
this subject is viewed and accepted (IMO).    As a result, I
think the genre is looking less and less like a scientific
enquiry, and more like a paranormal interest group.
