Hello AJ, I realise that you specifically asked people to send their suggestions to you off-List, but I think the following will be of interest to many List members. I seem to recall that MacLaine was a personal friend of Peter and Eileen Caddy, founders of Findhorn, and spent some time there. In his book (A Luminous Journey), Johan Quanjar relates a story of the Caddys mistreating an elderly American - see the extract below. I would like to know if MacLaine was familiar with Naomi Edwards and her situation, and if there is any foundation to Quanjar's commentary. I would also be interested in her thoughts about Findorn, Historically and currently. Extract from page 67 of The Luminous Journey, Johan Quanjar, electronic version: ----- ...A rather touching footnote to this fiasco concerns the frail elderly American lady, who had from the beginning impressed me as being many cuts above the rest of the group. She, Mrs Edwards, also known as Naomi, had been enticed there after her husband's death, in the hope of spending her twilight years in a community of spiritually-minded people like herself. Her hopes swiftly crumbled when she found that not only were her pension and possessions immediately commandeered, or 'shared', but her very privacy was cruelly roughtrod by the leader and his wife, as they read her mail, spied on her and demanded she hand over metaphysical writings, which she bravely withheld from them. These were safely in Chicago, but in order to force the poor lady to write request letters for them, she was given, as she told me, the 'hot and cold' treatment, meaning one moment she was given warmth and love and a day later she was neglected. I had returned to Scotland, in response to the American lady's pleas to rescue her and I observed with my own eyes, how she was indeed spied upon. These personal affronts included going through her handbag, as I saw the leader doing when he thought no on else was looking, and generally mistreating her. I managed to get a psychiatrist friend of mine, whom I had met in nearby Pluscarden Abbey, to see the leader, and I introduced him as a friend, with a view to receiving a professional opinion, which was readily forthcoming. "Not once, in my psychiatric career have I met anyone with such an ego complex as that man", was his verdict of him. It was, he said, essential to get the lady out before she died prematurely, for she would do so if she stayed. To cut a long story short, this was finally accomplished and Mrs Edwards was removed from her heartless tormentors. After a rest in the South of England, where she was seen by several doctors, I arranged for her return to America. In her eyes, I remained a knight in shining armour. ----- Regards, Joe Listen to 'Strange Days...
