I'd like to point out a few things: 1. Einstein _postulated_ that the speed of light (SOL) was constant, and that nothing could exceed it. 2. The SOL has never, AFAIK, been tested on _uncharged_ particles, until now. Field/particle interactions in accelerators are the cause of the upper limit of particle speed. The OPERA experiment was brilliant in that it uses uncharged particles. Unfortunately, there's no way to accelerate them without using SOL-limited accelerators. Had that not been the case, the speed difference might have been spectacular. The interpretation of the ICARUS data is based on the assumption that neutrinos should lose energy if they traveled at or above the SOL. This theory has never been tested with uncharged particles. If OPERA shows the SOL violated, you can't use the same theories to discredit it. This, IMO, is the real reason for the controversy. If neutrinos can travel faster than light, then the whole system of theories based on the light speed limit will have to crash like a house of cards. The Physics Establishment doesn't want to see this happen. Maybe they'll have to sweep it under the rug, like they did with Michelson-Morley. I wonder why they didn't just raise the SOL limit a little and be done with it. Best Regards, Albert Listen to 'Strange Days...
