The creation of crop formations in Brazil is a very interesting case study for the phenomenon as a whole. The formations started a few years ago as simple concentric circles, and have been -- very, very slowly - growing in complexity, even though they are still very crude, or as one may indeed say, still pretty much "ridiculous" in comparison to the current British ones. Aerial photos of the latest ones can be seen at: http://wp.clicrbs.com.br/chapeco/tag/ipuacu/?topo=77,2,18,,,77 They are very reminiscent of the very first crop circles created by Doug and Dave. Very crude. It's also very important to inform readers abroad that even those that defend some of those Brazilian formations as having a mysterious origin acknowledge several of them are also clearly hoaxed. In the same link above, for instance, Ivo Dohl, a local journalist and one of the first on the scene in many of the formations, reminds that some "may have been created with the help of PET bottles filled with sand tied to broomsticks". That's right, because those exact tools have been found inside one of the past formations. It's a fascinating adaptation of the cords and planks more commonly used abroad. For the believers, though, the logic is always that despite all the clear evidence of hoax, the formations that were not proved as hoaxes must be very mysterious. That is, until those certified as "authentic" crop circles are also proved as hoaxes, in which case one may leave the field, as Pat Delgado did, and/or claim an elaborate conspiracy to discredit them, as Colin Adrews and many others do.
