Kevin, Even if Betty and Barney Hill were not completely ignorant of SF imagery, although they were not very interested, the main point remains that Dr Simon tried repeatedly to convince them, under hypnosis, that they had been dreaming, but he failed completely. He admitted finally that, to them, their story was real. That brings up a couple of points: First, even a good professional may not be able to influence witnesses under hypnosis. They can resist. Second, the critique made against Budd Hopkins and others of influencing witnesses under hypnosis and of being unethical, can be made againt Dr Simon, the eminent professional, in the first place.
