This story focuses on NASA landing astronauts and materiel on an asteroid by 2025 instead of returning to the Moon to use it as a colony and manufacturing base. http://tinyurl.com/3uqbxm9 Their logic is that asteroids are dangerous and we need to rustle one up to experiment on. The present technologies for scanning for asteroids, getting there, manipulating one to avoid predicting collisions, housing crews and more looks primitive. Makes more sense to me to go back to the Moon and get the necessary manufacturing going in order to go further out into space. Look at enhancing our detection technologies and propulsion so that we could build better imaging satellites to find these asteroids and find ways to build systems to destroy or move these asteroids out of harm's way. Or maybe someone already built such a system but we're not told about it or perhaps we accidentally destroyed it and we haven't told the public yet.
