It is difficult to answer your question definitively without
investigating each of those sightings.

I have investigated a lot of these types of sightings for MUFON.
They are usually caused by Chinese Lanterns which have a yellow
to red color.

Initially I think it is something else, but once I meet with the
witness their interpretation of the events is often just that...
their interpretation of speed, size, directional change, etc. I
am not saying that some of those sightings might not be
something else; but in general that is what I have found to be
the most common cause of this type of report.
