But I have to ask what mechanism you would envision to restrict the impact of "crackpots" and "frauds"? The establishment of a group to measure the veracity of evidence and/or claims would merely add the noise level, as more self-appointed experts publish their thoughts on the Internet. For the general public, I think the genre is defined by the media and Internet; but, there remains a core group of researchers trying to bring some scientific balance to a fractured field.
