No such natural (non-intelligent) atmospheric process is known
with the ability to selectively discern between apples, rocks,
dirt clods, leaves, twigs, branches, apple boxes, pears, sun-
glasses, hats, garbage, garbage-can lids, etc. Have you auch a
process in mind?

When a whirlwind or tornado transports objects it picks up,
which sooner or later fall out of the vortex, the details of
their reappearance at the ground of course do depend upon, and
are associated with, the precise life history of that vortex and
the air it’s embedded within.

Again, it would require intelligence and capabilities of
discernment, and more, for the imagined vortex to deposit all
the picked up apples in one small area, all the rocks in
another, all the dirt clods in another area, all the leaves in
yet another place, etc. Nothing like this was observed.

However, there is one example you might point to. The Bible (2
Kings 2:1,11) mentions that a whirlwind picked up Elijah and
carried him off. It selectively took him up, apparently without
him being obscured within a cloud of dust or debris. But in that
case there was a “chariot of fire” standing by in the vicinity.
