Hello List

This news item:

Keresley Villagers Mystified By Apple Shower

reminded that I'd collected stories of 'falls' some time ago,
prompted by reading Charles Fort on the subject:

Falls, Flows, And Oozes - Survey/Review

USA has slightly different

Media collection

and different again, weird in Arizona

Am slightly worried by the (predictable) response, to the apple
fall, by 'experts' who fell back on the whirlwind explanation.

Reeading the collection you'll see that some quite massy objects
feature, including quarry stones etc. While gravel (hundreds of
reports) is almost feasibly lifted by 'whirlwinds', some other
of the objects are unfeasibly large and dense.

[Quite apart from the fact that 'falls' are always exclusively
of one type of object or life-form - no mixtures, no rubbish,
pond contents, branches or even dirt/soil - which one would
surely expect to find if 'whirlwinds' were doing the work]

The reason I'm slightly worried is the possibility, hinted at by
Fort, that a 'trickster' element is responsible.

For if a 'trickster' were to be dissatisfied by human responses
- seeing its work described as 'mere whirlwind effects' - maybe
we could anticipate an escalation to even more improbable feats:
falls of boulders, anvils, locomotives etc.?

Now that thought has me (slightly) uneasy.
