My thoughts are held to >memories of this fine man. There is a deep sadness in my heart. Thanks, Jerry, for saying this with so much feeling. I'm full of sadness, too. Thoughts of Budd have taken over my day. He and I hadn't seen much of each other in recent years, but for a long time we were close friends, and lived just a few blocks from each other in New York. We got back in touch during the past year, and i'm lucky to have spoken to him by phone only a couple of months ago. I'm grateful that his death was so calm, and that he had Leslie Kean in his life, to help and support him. We shouldn't underestimate the bravery of his UFO work. He had a fully developed life as an artist, with rich friendships. Few of us, I think, would have put all that at risk the way Budd did, simply out of a conviction that abductions were so crucial to make known and study. Essentially he abandoned a major art career, though he never stopped making art. I have a few of his later pieces, which are wonderful. And his passion for art was inspiring. To hear him talk about it was a great privilege for many people. I met many of his long-time friends, and while they still loved him, as they told me, they found he'd gone, with UFOs, to places they couldn't go. And of course he knew that, which makes him all the more brave. I think he bore his illnesses with great dignity, too. Which is another kind of bravery. I never realized how much I'd miss him. We should put aside all the usual UFO sniping (which is something else Budd never had to put up with in his pre-UFO life; the art world is no picnic, but it's like a Quaker meeting compared to the UFO community). And we should honor Budd here. Greg Sandow Listen to 'Strange Days...
