But that's exactly what 'UFO', loaded or not, means. The problem
with this idea is that it addresses a symptom rather than a
cause and leads to a linguistic game of chase.

It's rather like having to abandon a term like 'Afro-American'
(perfectly good piece of English) because the 'Afro' component
develops negative connotations. Eventually the replacement term,
'African American' will have to be abandoned when black
Americans (who used to be 'negroes' until that word didn't work
too well) decide that 'African' has too many negative
connotations of its own. If American news media focused more on
foreign reporting, they would probably already have decided that
the term was synonymous with grinding poverty, violence and

The aims are laudable but the solution is flawed. The problem
isn't the word, the problem is the attitude.
