A side issue....

Do we and Russia/China really have monitoring equipment to cover
the skies above and around the countries? I mean_all_ the skies?
I have seen the stories for equipment to monitor satellites, but
satellites seem to have to pass through a radar "line" (or two)
to gather data. Optical tracking is used too, but only at
certain specific locations.

We have a bunch of aircraft tracking radars which have different
coverages, look angles, but for military defense, they are
looking for travel from hostile countries, not from straight up.

We don't have a radar aiming straight up to monitor our entire
airspace. Or do we?
