Did I answer this? Think not.

I suspect that some do colour their research due to some
religious leanings. Others won't touch this stuff with a ten
foot pole because they think it anti-religious or the work of
the devil or some such nonsense.

They are threatened by it, I think, because of an ego-centric
view or perhaps a tenuous - at best-hold on their beliefs and
don't want to be tempted.
