Subject: Second Rock From The Sun Discovered!

Hi Everyone!

* New Object is 2nd Rock from the Sun

Astronomers announced Thursday the second known asteroid whose
orbit is completely inside that of Earth. It supplants Venus as
the second rock from the Sun.

Not only is the average distance from the Sun for this "minor
planet" less than Earth's and Venus' but at times its eliptical
orbit takes it closer to the Sun than Mercury, the "First Rock
From The Sun". If there are indeed an estimated 50 such
asteroids of about 1 kilometers in size just waiting to be
discovered well inside the orbit of Earth, they could one day be
used as future manned space stations, assuming that a few of
them are not already occupied or of artificial origin! These
asteroids thought to exist in the inner solar system may explain
some of the large UFO images detected around the Sun by the
Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) in the past.

And in case readers overlooked it, another planet, or planetoid,
beyond Neptune was discovered around the same time as Sedna, a
world many times further away from the Sun than Pluto. This
"10th planet" (2004 DW) is possibly even larger than Sedna and
could very well turn out to be larger than Pluto itself! See
'Sky & Telescope', June 2004, page 16 for further details.

It makes me wonder just how many more such worlds are out there
waiting to be discovered within our solar system - literally our
backyard of space which dispite our arrogance, is still very
mysterious and full of surprises!
