Hi Everyone!

If this NASA/ESA discovery is genuine, it would be more exciting
than that picture of a UFO orbiting Mars since it would be solid
scientific evidence of actual Martians!

It is currently thought that the UV light levels on the surface
of Mars are so high that exposed living organisms could not
survive and what little non-biologically methane gas that exists
would have long since been broken down to simpler gases by the
light on Mars. This discovery of methane suggests there must be
something living on Mars that is continuously producing methane.
There is a team of Mars scientists at the University of Toronto
have have designed an experiment to detect very small traces of
methane in the Martian atmosphere, amounts equivalent to that
produced by a just a couple of "farting cows" anywhere on the
planet. We may have already detected them!

Another interesting thing about methane is that it is a better
"green-house" gas than carbon dioxide. If there is some biomass
on Mars now, we can expect it to increase with the very slowly
rising temperatures. The increase in temperatures will produce
more liquid water on the surface which in turn will help to
increase the total methane producing biomass.

We could very well be seeing the start of the warming and
natural terraforming of Mars that will eventually create a
habitable planet for human colonization!
