Look, up in the sky! It's a spectacle that's out of this world

Thanks to a rare alignment in the heavens, sky-gazers can find
five planets strung across the Miami Valley morning or evening
sky for a couple weeks.

The positions of Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn and Jupiter place
them on the same side of the sun as Earth, and astronomers say
the alignment is an extra special treat because our five nearest
planetary neighbors will appear to be assembled in a small
corner of the sky.

They are best seen just after sunset every night through early

Astronomers also note that the five planets will again be
together at the end of this year and early January 2005.

Viewers will notice that Venus is the brightest of the lot, an
appearance attributable to its position in relation to Earth.

Joe Tarkany, a Miami Valley Astronomical Society board member,
said representatives will provide viewing opportunities tonight
at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery Apollo Observatory from
7:30 to 9:30 p.m. =97 provided the sky is clear.
