But if you're willing to get away for a day, Colorado holds some very unique spots. One stretch fitting the bill, is Highway 17 in the San Luis Valley. UFO sightings and some reptiles that look out of place in the shadow of snow capped mountains. The UFO watchtower was put up about five years ago, mostly as a joke after the land- owners heard stories of unexplained phenomenon in the air over this valley. They thought it would be a fun attraction. Little did they know it would attract UFO trackers from around the world, and that they'd have experiences adding them to the ranks of believers. Stan Becker of the watchtower explains, "We seen some crystals in the skies and somebody said man look at that star, it's just going like heck and we thought it was a falling star. And then it took off and then it stopped, and then it went a different way and did flip-flops and we said man that is really strange. There was about 15 people who seen it." Now this is identifiable, but it seems alien here in Colorado. Just a few miles down the road from the UFO tower you can find a couple hundred alligators living in water from a geo thermal spring. They were brought here to dispose of waste from a fish farm, but so many people wanted to see them the business added on the title of attraction. So if you want to delve into the unexplained, and out of place Colorado's Highway 17 is the place to go. The road runs south from Salida and north from Alamosa.
