Those who have taken sides on this controversy are hardly likely
to change their minds as the result of a polygraph test. Look
what happened in the Travis Walton abduction case, in which
Jerry Black was also involved in arranging polygraph tests.

Those who believed Walton said that Cy Gilson's test was valid,
as he said that Walton was telling the truth, but Klass
discovered that John McCarthy had earlier tested Walton and
found his story to be false. The sceptics accepted McCarthy's
results and rejected Gilson's.

Thus it seems that a polygraph test has been correctly performed
if it tells you what you are hoping to hear.

There is a good summary of the Walton case, including details
about the polygraph tests, including a discussion about the
validity of this technique, at:

This is generally favourable to the principle of the lie
detector, but I understand that some American states do not
accept evidence obtained in this way in court. Also, such
evidence is not accepted in British courts.

In view of the lack of a general consensus as to the validity of
polygraph testing, perhaps those concerned might consider that
the result of the proposed test, whatever it might be, is
unlikely to be taken seriously by many of those who hear about
