Mystery Spheres on Mars Finally Identified
By Leonard David

Using the M=F6ssbauer Spectrometer mounted on Opportunity's robot
arm, a group of the tiny spherules (called "blueberries,"
although they aren't really blue) has been examined and
identified as hematite.

Now, for List members, I have this comment:

JPL/NASA do not tell us that hematite forms as spheres on earth
due to expanding colonization by ferrophagic bacteria, which
consume iron and excrete it as hematite, which expands
spherically. I think it very likely that this kind of thing
formed the "blueberries" on Mars.

Let us not forget, however, that at least some of the
"blueberries" indisputably have 'stems'! Those that have been
clearly shown to have 'stems' strongly suggest that some other
form of life made at least the stem part and probably the
"blueberry" and 'stem' combinations, even though the same kind
of ferrophagic colonization probably filled the cavities (left
by other life) with hematite. In that case, the hematite
possibly grew from the cavity walls, inwardly, filling the voids
and creating a hematite fossil cast, just as seen in some
terrestrial fossils and ichnites.

In releasing the analysis of the "blueberries" as hematite, I
suggest that the JPL/NASA people have this time really 'cooked
their goose' of allegation that no evidence of life on Mars,
past or present, has been found, even if the goose was not fully
cooked by their earlier admission that the "blueberries" are
"concretions" (as suggested in one my earlier postings).

I say it is time for the JPL/NASA nay sayers to 'fess up'
(confess their error, or their cover-up, whichever it was).
