Dear Friends and Colleagues:

I am terribly sorry to hear about UFO Magazine UK's demise. But
not surprised. Being a UFO editor myself, for 20 years, I know
what it takes to keep a magazine functioning. I was a friend of
Graham Birdsall's and have lectured many times at his
conferences. I count his daughters and wife, his brother Mark
and son-in-law Russell as friend. I have absolutely no doubt
that all of them struggled and worked extremely hard to keep UFO
Magazine UK alive, and it must have indeed been too much of a
demanding task.

UFO Magazine UK was Graham's life project. It was Graham's
devotion and obsession to present the world with a fine magazine
on UFOs like we have never seen before - and maybe won't see
again! Graham managed to engage his family in his project. So
the girls, Russel and Christine also gave much of themselves to
make the magazine be what it was. But, again, it was Graham's
life project. He was "intended" to do so with his life. I met
the man in several countries and exchanged a lot with him. I am
proud to say that I admired him enormously and will keep doing
so.

In Brazil, where I live, editing a UFO Magazine is also a tough
job. Maybe even harder than in the USA and UK. Things in the
economy of my country are really trying and extremely demanding.
To keep any kind of project alive here one must have lots of
energy. And certainly, to keep a UFO magazine alive here is even
much more complicated and difficult. Even so, I have managed to
keep it running for almost 20 years now. My magazine - which is
the oldest news stand UFO publication in the world and I guess
the largest circulation, of 44 thousand per month - has broken 3
times, but while I remained alive, I managed to reconstruct it
and rebuild it in every of these sad moments.

Like UFO Magazine UK, Brazilian UFO Magazine is my life project.
And those who've met me know how seriously I operate to keep it
alive and running. We once had a staff of 12 and a lot of
resources. But due to the severe economic crisis we are facing
in Brazil (doesn't matter under which what government we are, we
always have crisis!), we are now reduced to 6. Like UFO Magazine
UK, my family is engaged in helping me to keep my life's
project. My daughter, son and girlfriend are also members of my
staff. I often wonder when I'll have to bring my cat in to work
with us.....

Well, with these lines I intended to tell to you all, wherever
you live and whatever you do in and around Ufology, that the
idea of launching and keeping a UFO magazine is hardly a
profitable business. It is barely a business. Rather, it is more
like a passion that you have to work out, no matter what. Graham
did so, working madly to keep the magazine running, day and
night, seven days a week, with the help of his family - as do I.
His life project is my life project, and as long as I am alive,
Brazilian UFO Magazine will be running. After I die, I do not
know.....
