Hi Terry!

If you go to the web site below

look for and click on 'Descent' which is found below the heading
'Photo Album' on the left of the page. This will take you to the
next page.

Download the picture of Beagle2 in space (the first one at the
top of the page) so that the image fills much of the screen of
your computer monitor. You will then notice two faint stars(?)
of equal brightness close together near the middle of the
picture. Below them and just to the right of the ESA logo you
will also see a much brighter elongated star-like object. Could
this be the same unidentified object near Beagle 2 that was
mentioned in the article?

It should be possible to identify all three of these star-like
objects if they were indeed stars. I suspect they are nothing
more than spacecraft debris floating in space after Beagle 2
separated from the Mars Express mothership - very much like the
debris that floats out of the Space Shuttle after the cargo bay
doors are opened (and sometimes leads to reports of UFOs in
space near the shuttle).

Of course, we do not know the density of particles, including
very small asteroids, in the vicinity of Mars (some believe that
the two small moons of Mars are just temporarily captured
asteroids, two of many more such objects in this region of the
solar system). Could such a very small but fast moving space
rock (just like the elongated star-like object in the picture
near Beagle 2?) have collided with the Mars lander on the final
leg of its journey to the Red Planet?

I would like to know if there are more than just this picture of
Beagle 2 take from Mars Express which should help us determine
if these star-like objects are stars, space debris, small
asteroids or possibly even UFOs.
