Hi Jim!

No, we haven't forgotten you or about the anomalous images of a
saucer-shaped UFO in a movie that was allegedly shot during the
flight of Apollo 16 to the Moon. It was not that long ago that I
sent high quality photocopies of Hiroshi Nakamura's analysis
that was published in JSE to you and others by mail. It does
take time to carefully read Nakamura's 25 page paper and to do
some background checks and verifications of our own before one
makes any quick judgements...

Below is an e-mail I sent to fellow your Texan friend Lan
Fleming:

"Although a reflection from inside the Apollo 16 Command Module
has not been ruled out (we do not even know just how close the
camera was held to the window), I am not aware of other examples
of such reflections in movies or consecutive still photos taken
on Apollo 16 or by similar cameras used in other Apollo flights
in the vicinity of the Moon.

Did this mapping camera have a manual zoom? If the sequence of
pictures of the Moon in the contact sheet (see Fig. 17) are in
chronological order and was accurately reproduced in this paper,
the angular size of the Moon varies from frame to frame. So a
double exposure where the two images of the Moon are not the
same size is not anything to be suspicious about - unless this
particular camera used would make it double exposures impossible
(just like the polaroid cameras that Ed Walters used but somehow
still managed to create such double exposures himself). If it
was the some other Apollo crew, I would suspect a prank was
played or even a deliberate UFO hoax.

James Oberg's objections that the author of the paper used a
later generation and possibly even an altered or retouched copy
of this movie that was obtained through Internet sources and not
NASA is a non-issue, especially since James himself claims to
have seen this Apollo 16 movie and had initially identified the
UFO as the Earth (footnote 1, page 410)!

Grant Cameron is doing further investigation into the Apollo 16
UFO images and last Saturday night on Errol's 'Strange Days...
Indeed' radio program, on UFOs, he also spoke about Apollo 14
astronaut Edgar Mitchell's recent UFO revelations. Edgar was
also the backup Lunar Module pilot for Apollo 16. I wonder what
his comments would be regarding the Apollo 16 UFO images."
