OK, here goes... this is really strange... and I think it might
be pertinent to hypnopompic/hypnogonic experiences, of which
sleep paralysis is a subset. Then again it may not be pertinent,
but it's so darn strange I just have to talk about it.

When I was about four years old, there was this lamp that stood
next to my bed. It was a tall green floor lamp that ended in a
sort of conic shape at the top, with ornate gold-painted
fleur-de-lis designs around the top. Very 1940's.

One morning I woke up to the sight of my floor lamp at the foot
of my bed...at least it was there for about a second. When it
saw that I was "awake", it sprouted little cartoon legs and
dashed back to its normal place at the head of my bed.

OK, waking dream, four-year-old imagination, etc. etc. No
argument, although I must state that I did not then "wake up for
real" as in most such experiences. I sat bolt upright when I saw
this, and was then _wide_ awake.

Now, for the really, really strange part. Many years later, my
wife began recounting the exact same experience, which she had
when she was about four. She said the lamp was normally at the
head of her bed, but one morning she woke up to find it at the
foot of her bed, and as soon as she saw it, it sprouted cartoon
legs, kinda like a Dr. Seuss animal, and dashed back into place.

But wait, it gets stranger still.

I asked her to describe the lamp. Her description matched my
lamp in every way. Tall, dark green, old, fleur-de-lis designs,
the whole nine yards.

I don't have the slightest clue what this means...but never
having seen a UFO, ghost, or anything, it is the strangest story
I have to tell, and this is the first time I've ever posted
anything about it. I guess I'm hoping someone out there has a
similar experience to relate. Or maybe I'm hoping otherwise...
