There's a tendency for us to think of ourselves (modern humans) as being somehow generally more intelligent than our ancient ancestors because we know how to drive cars and work computers and stuff. But people weren't stupid in the past. If anything, they might have had to be a little more clever just to survive. And 10,000 years ago, just like now, there were a few Leonardo DaVincis and Albert Einsteins walking around in the general population. And since the population was so much smaller, these exceptional individuals would less likely have been lost in the shuffle and more likely gain the attention of a smart king or emperor to do wome extraordinary work. Also, honestly, some of the pyramids found around the world aren't really built that well. Or at least could have been built a lot better, had they been built by super-intelligent aliens.
