Whether somehow of perceptual origin or due to something much
more strange, I have noticed reports of such a phenomenon in
quite a few other cases.

For example, I interviewed several relatives within a large
Arizona family who had been travelling in multiple cars (as a
kind of car caravan) back home through norhern Arizona,
returning from a funeral in another state. In mid-afternoon on a
bright summer day, they were travelling west on State Highway
260 through the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest when, coming
around a curve, those in the first car something so startling in
the sky that they pulled off the roadway to watch it. In turn,
the family members following did likewise, equally in awe.

What they clearly saw at disconcertingly close range was what
looked like "some weird aircraft from the future" that reminded
each of them of nothing so much as, "Batman's airplane"! In came
near, then hovered for an extended period before leaving. The
thing had a window-like panel made of "something resembling
translucent black obsidian" (volcanic glass).

The thing that puzzled all of them, afterward, the most was not
the mysterious craft -- strange though it was! It was this:
Traffic was terribly dense on that highway through mountains and
pine trees on such summer days, as it usually is. But when the
sighting ocurred, everyone I interviewed said something just
seemed, as one described it as unnatural and weird, like they
were somehow isolated into some kind of time 'pocket' from the
rest of the world. They said it felt kind of like everything was
inexplicably slowed down, and most puzzling of all was that with
the heavy traffic they had been experiencing for many miles both
before and after the encounter seemed non-existent during the
