Max,

I am not pre-judging anything, but instead merely making an
observation. In fact, I fervently hope that they are legitimate.
But let's take a hypothetical case:

If this group makes some statement alleging scientific validity
to UFOs or claiming to validate some aspect of related research
anonymously, good and influential scientists (be they
uncommitted or outright skeptics) will pay no attention. If
those same scientists see the statement(s) issuing from people
with legiitmate and verifiable scientific credentials, they will
be far more likely to take a look at the work, at least to the
extent of trying to find  fault wiith it or good reason to
modify their views.....

That's science.
