Hello Katharina,

With all due respect to you, Luis R. Gonzalez did not need
permission to comment in the way that he did, on your
fascinating case as discussed in Hopkin's and Rainey's book.
Copyright law provides no such protection and its intention is
not to protect an author or an author's subject from
controversy. Anyone can discuss a controversial subject without
breaking copyright law. It is well to expect and accept some
controversy. If not, I suggest you brace yourself, for the time
could come, with all the heartless CSICOP 'pelicans' out there,
that you may come to think of Gonzalez's discussion as
comparatively kind and restrained. I am glad his discussion did
not seem to contain anything even close to attempted slander or
any content that would be considered libelous, unless there's
something I missed in reading it.

I'm sorry to see you distressed about the discussion, but it
might be helpful to realize that once one allows oneself to step
out into controversy, it is best to simply be philosophical and
realize that certain things are likely to 'come with the turf'.
It might be prudent to try and let such controversy strengthen
you as might an annealing fire upon metal, lest, otherwise, your
reaction to it 'burn' and weaken you from within.

I personally know nothing of your experience, but plan to give
it a fair 'hearing' by reading the book and hope others will do
so before commenting. The universe seems much stranger than some
in this forum may be willing to accept. I've weathered some
controversy, myself, over the years, and, based on my
experience, I encourage you to allow what comes your way to
strengthen you. It may seem a painful strengthening, but hold in
there, and you will be stronger and feel better in the long run.
Of course, calmly and resolutely 'stand your ground', if it is
realistic to do so, remembering that when flames get turned up,
it is usually the cool gal or guy who comes out on top. I
haven't, personally, always succeeded in doing that, but think
it a worthwhile, when possible.

Every Good Wish,

Ray Stanford
