I appreciate and agree with this post.

I'm sure most folks on this list realize that 'pseudoscientific
conferences' happen because that is what is marketable. Most on
this list also agree that there are some 'snake oil salesmen'
involved in the UFO subject and their appearances at the various
conferences are usually due to business reasons. In blunt
honesty here, money talks. And as a former conference organizer
myself, I know.

I think it is fair to say the public is to blame, and there are
many reasons for their complacency and hypnotic gullibility. But
let's not pretend academia is entirely innocent in this whole
tragedy. If academia had not abandoned the UFO subject, the
snake-oil salesmen would not have stepped in to fill the vacuum,
hypnotize the masses and keep the topic alive, in many cases.
