My estimate of between 1000-2000 accounts, stated in a previous message to this and other e-Lists, was too low - I had neglected to account for private, off-list contributions of historical materials to the Project, which were substantial. In an effort to interest experienced researchers in becoming contributing members to the List, we recently posted a sample of List-Digests from the past year at our public website, to demonstrate the kinds of material being shared on the List. It is important that prospective members understand that our policy of requiring that each member contribute one (originally two) original, historical account per week is one of the reasons why we have been able to gather such a great deal of material in just a little over one year. The other reason for our success is the hard work and dedication of some of our members, who have consistently posted more than the weekly requirement. We would like to continue to share new material with non- List members. This is to continue our attempts to interest researchers in becoming members, as well as simply advancing the understanding, among interested individuals, that the "UFO" phenomenon did not in any sense 'begin' in 1947, but ultimately dates back to antiquity - a proposition which has been given a great deal of lip-service in the last several decades, but which has never, until now, been demonstrated by a survey of pre-1947 literature of this depth and scope. Accordingly, the digests formerly posted have now been replaced with new digests, never seen before. Henceforth it will be our practice to periodically refresh our sample archive page with new material. We will also periodically post, to our website and on this List, accounts in our holdings which we feel will attract a wide range of interest.
