Hi Don!:) Sorry for not answering your question! The reports are extremely varied as Paul Novak noted! Some say 6 some 5, 3 and 1. Some say heart-attack, motor vehicle but only one article directly says shrapnel. Even the amount of shells fired is inconsistant. One piece I've found that seems to be written by a Gunner is: "Although the regiment shot 3,286 shells and the unit failed to down any enemy planes." Although the total number quoted at the SF Museum is 1440 shells in total! There seems to be nothing of the incident mentioned at official army & navy history archives. I believe the information is still classified by Joseph Trainors statement here: "(Editor's Comment: Maybe the gang at the Black Vault could use the Freedom of Information Act to get the Army's Situation Reports for February 25, 1942 for the 65th and 205th A.A. Regiments. Wouldn't that be interesting reading!)" http://www.virtuallystrange.net/ufo/updates/1998/feb/m22-012.shtml I've sent a request for the photo, it'll be interesting to see what happens as even an article on the subject, written by the LA Inquirer last year, which is owned by the LA Times, seem to have been removed from their archive?
