I >discover that I have to move Mr. Clark, respectfully, to >the second chair! <snip> http://www.virtuallystrange.net/ufo/updates/2002/jun/m15-015.shtml First of all, I am exceedingly grateful and thrilled that anyone has taken the time to read what I have assembled at my web site and am doubly grateful that Alfred has found it to be what he feels it is. Evidently he got my drift and I thank him from the bottom of my heart. I'm also thankful just to be considered by anyone to be in the same ballpark with some extremely intelligent people, some of whom have spent virtually their entire lives investigating those elusive 'will o' the wisps' known as UFOs. However, I'm coming from a different place than Jerome. I'm saying I've seen one of these things. He doesn't have that luxury. The purpose of my site wasn't and isn't to be better than anyone else, but rather to hopefully give a single-person overview of the UFO situation as I have seen it develop over the years; one totally removed from the political goings on that are inevitably part of the human-group condition in any field. The only thought in my mind in constructing the whole thing has been to somehow make, what I pray to myself might possibly turn out to be, a worthwhile contribution to ufology in general. Part of it has been totally selfish. I wanted PROOF of what I saw; nothing more, nothing less. It scared the living c___ out of me. But I'm a retired guy and I don't, nor should anyone else, expect any of the research groups to duplicate in any way, shape, or form what I assembled at my web site. It was an ongoing endeavor that has been an annoying monkey on my back for 35+ years, especially for the first 10-15 years of amazing angst. It is the teacher part of me that assembled it the way I did and freely posted it on the net. It is certainly more than enough that these groups go out and do the "in-the-field" studies of cases, some of which may eventually turn out to fall into that small percentage which are eventually proven true "UFOs"; UFOs that have resisted the attempts of everyone; scientists, skeptics, believers, whomever, to resolve them scientifically and rationally. These groups need support and they need money to be able to afford to do the kinds of studies that we'd all like to see performed. Hessdalen is a perfect example of one such study. Look what they've set up there. http://www.hessdalen.org/ As more of these type studies are completed, I believe we will eventually get past the periphery and finally get to the core of what some of us suspect this phenomenon is all about. Of course, skeptics will see this last sentence from a different point of view, and this is certainly how it should be until this whole thing is resolved. This is where I think it's at trying to pin down this elusive "son of a gun." (I wrote that last phrase differently the first time.) My web site was only meant to be a support to all those people out there "doing their thing." If it helps even one person locate anything they need or communicate with someone else, whatever, I'm at deep peace with myself. If it wasn't for the great work many of you have done out there, I think I would have "flipped my cookies" long ago. I probably have anyway, but cosmically speaking, it's a short life. We might as well spend the time we have doing something we feel is truly important. Why else are we on this list? Any readers out there who are looking at this and other discussions at this mail list in wonderment, and would like to help, we need you. If you have a scientific background, even better. Please join some of these groups and participate. Remember, contributing by reading their journals alone still raises money that helps the research. They can certainly use your assistance. Just click CUFOS (Center for UFO Studies) http://www.cufos.org/ FUFOR (Fund for UFO Research) http://www.fufor.com/ MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) http://www.mufon.com/home.html PROJECT 1947 http://www.project1947.com/infoltr.htm and they will tell you what you can do to help. Respectfully, Jerry Cohen http://www.cohenufo.org/ PS The history hyperlinkings at my web site can perhaps help newcomers efficiently gain a deeper understanding of ufology in general. It is by no means a complete history of the field (Jerome has it covered... buy one of his books), http://www.alibris.com/search/search.cfm?wauth=Jerome%20clark but rather a basic overview which can help one understand a few of the factors that have caused us to arrive at our present situation today.
