I've had the following letter from Graham Birdsall, editor of
the UK UFO Magazine with some interesting background on Bruce
Burgess and his new Lazar movie.

Dear Dave,

I was interested to learn that Bob Lazar has signed a deal with
UK based Bluebook Films to turn his story into a feature film.
More so when it was stated that Bluebook Films founder, Bruce
Burgess, 'is the only one to date that is truly making an effort
to stick to the facts and not create just another Hollywood

You close by stating: 'Going up against the big boys in
Hollywood is quite a task... my hat's off to Bruce for the

I first met Bruce Burgess in 1996-97, when he was head of the
London-based TransMedia. We worked on the award winning factual
TV documentary 'Dreamland', commissioned by BSKYB.

Bruce was both presenter and narrator. 'Dreamland' told the
story of 'Area 51' and thanks to the efforts of award-winning
cameraman, current affairs and documentary film-maker Sebastian
Rich, we saw the closest-ever shots of Groom Lake. People may
recall that it was this documentary which saw Bruce hire a light
aircraft to penetrate the restricted 'No Fly' zone around Groom
Lake, only to be warned off by two jet fighters that came
perilously close to shaving their wing-tips.

Shortly after, Nick Pope and I acted as consultants in the
production of five UFO-related documentaries. During a 10-day
visit to Brazil, I assisted TransMedia in their re-telling of
the Varginha Incident. Bruce visited Varginha for himself and I
have to say that the end-result was a truly superb documentary.
For example, the re-staging of the moment when Brazilian
military entered woods to capture one of the alleged alien
creatures was undertaken at Elstree Studios.

In late 1999, I teamed up with Bruce again. TransMedia had been
sold off and he was now an independent producer. Bruce expressed
a genuine desire to produce a documentary based on recently
acquired NASA space shuttle images - which he spent an entire
day viewing - and which depicted some extraordinary anomalous

However, on the eve of departing to America, and with the sum of
=A370,000 raised for its production, Bruce sent us a fax (we were
in America at the time) to inform us that it had been cancelled.

The only reason he put forward for this sudden change of heart
was that noted sceptic, James Oberg, had persuaded him that all
of the aforementioned anomalous activity could be readily
explained as 'ice crystals' etc. Having previously agreed that
the footage was 'newsworthy'in every respect, Bruce's decision
came as a bolt from the blue.

Interestingly, Bruce was not averse to including scathing and
critical comments levelled against Bob Lazar in the 'Dreamland'
documentary. I refer specifically to remarks issued by Stanton
T. Friedman, who alluded to Lazar's proven non-academic and
scientific background, which patently cast a huge question mark
over his credibility.

But unlike criticism he readily accepted from James Oberg, a
somewhat different criteria appears to have been applied in this
instance. Nonetheless, it will be interesting indeed to discover
how Bruce intends to deal with, or negotiate around Friedman's
scathing remarks.

In light of this, and my own personal experience and involvement
with Bruce Burgess, I would extend nothing more than a guarded
welcome to his latest enterprise. All the same, I wish him and
the production well.

Yours faithfully,

Graham W. Birdsall
