SETI@home, a distributed network of volunteer PCs dedicated to the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI), reached the historic milestone by aggregating one million years of computer processing time. The project is the brain child of the SETI Institute, a non- profit group based in California's Silicon Valley. They're looking for ET, and they're doing it by searching for signs of intelligence gathered by commercial radio telescopes. SETI's senior scientist Seth Shostak expects ET to be a good conversationalist. "We're looking for intelligent life. Sophisticated beings that can hold up their side of the conversation." He's probably right.
