(The Electric Warrior) - ET scientists who a set personal a
computing milestone are also pondering what to say at first
contact.

SETI@home, a distributed network of volunteer PCs dedicated to
the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI), reached the
historic milestone by aggregating one million years of computer
processing time.

The project is the brain child of the SETI Institute, a non-
profit group based in California's Silicon Valley. They're
looking for ET, and they're doing it by searching for signs of
intelligence gathered by commercial radio telescopes.

SETI's senior scientist Seth Shostak expects ET to be a good
conversationalist. "We're looking for intelligent life.
Sophisticated beings that can hold up their side of the
conversation."

He's probably right. Both sides need to think up something
better than "Take me to your leader."
