There is no reason for a radio (or television) talk show host
(or producer) to take responsibility for not reporting all the
facts about anything unless the public demands it. The problem
is that many of the least credible programs have a significant
number of listeners (or viewers). The general public,
unfortunately, views most of this genre as a form of
entertainment. If the public demands a more serious approach to
the subject, the focus will change. Art Bell keeps telling his
audience that he expects them to make up their own minds, and he
focuses on the subjects that will bring in the most ratings.
From an economic standpoint, his business model make a lot of
sense. But, it certainly impacts the credibility of the field.

Seems to me that he has used this tact in other cases where his
guest's predictions failed to materialize. One also can't
ignore the impact of his show on some people, but again, it's
economics.
